There is a spiritual you. It is the highest level you, embodying the Fire element – the similarly highest of the world’s Fire-Air-Water-Earth foursome. As you work with Growing Holistically, you’ll find new, intriguing, and effective ways to develop your spiritual self. It will come as you tap into the Ancients’ four element spiritual wisdom.
Engaging Your Higher Self
It is worth note that our humankind is singular as a specie in how we tap into Fire as a force. This Fire force relates to what four element thinking calls “Oneness”. Our own individualized wholeness (as soul, mind,…) is Fire’s embodiment in ourselves.

Growing Holistically works with the belief that this spiritual dimension of ourselves – one’s spiritual self – is often in need of a waking up. Growing Holistically’s way to get you there is to quickly draw into the discussion the way Fire as a principle, force and element embodies the spiritual dimension of our human condition.
We are meant to awaken this Fire part of ourselves as we journey through our lives. In fact there are studies that show our physical brain changes in those who report spirituality is important in their lives.
Gain Resiliency as the spiritually focused part of your brain is awakened
Top notch research by Lisa Miller, PhD, and others shows that having a spiritual frame of reference does much to insulate ourselves from negative thinking and negative self-talk – and in fact gives you extra levels of resiliency. If you are pessimistic all too often, depressed in an existential way, lethargic, and not yet motivated to be more active – by awakening the spiritually focused part of your brain good things will begin to happen.
More and more research is showing that having a spiritual (not necessarily religious) portion of yourself is protective against depression as well as having serious health problems as you age. Interestingly, adolescents are particularly affected by their level of connection to a higher spiritual force.

An innate part of our human condition seeks to connect to that portion of ourselves. That might be why it is relatively common for young people to be searching, seeking to find something of spiritual caliber. Their need to tap into Creation’s spiritual vein counters the materialistic urges that are so greatly promoted today. The four element of reference help them make sense of the world.
FYI: A spiritual you does not fight against the here-and-now you, the materially-oriented you. Your spiritual self is there to draw its higher level perspective, its highest order principles into the various decisions and actions that make up your life.

How to awaken or grow your spiritual self
Meditation is a time-honored way. I find it helps a lot to have your eyes directed upward, generally closed. A different, but resonant force, Heart, is often awoken in us when we focus instead on drawing our attention to the heart center. Some benefit by looking at a candle in a focused manner. That said, there may be something about directing the eyes upward to awaken that spiritual force most significantly in you.

Using the four elements as a spiritual frame of reference
The Four Element Method sees nature’s four elements as a unifying frame of reference toward understanding the world’s underlying spiritual principles – and more pragmatically, they show to us that set of four simple components that we need to balance in our lives. One of them is Fire’s spiritual component.
The secret of the 4E Method is its use of mathematics and the hierarchy seen to be implicit in the foursome’s order – Fire, Air, Water and then Earth. The Oneness or Unity Principle (Fire’s spirituality) is visualized as being “fractured” as Creation happened.

A fully realized creation would be noted when Earth, that fourth principle which draws forward physicality, actually existed – proof to us that a physical world was indeed created. Well solid Earth does indeed exist; the four elements each embody one of those four cardinal principles needed to make a physical cosmos happen.
But let us not forget Air and then Water, both following Fire’s Unity Principle. Air embodies Twoness. Air, or space, is generated between the two arrows that do much to define a line. These two directions show up in real ways as the yin-yang principles of Two. Air embodies the Twoness Principle of yin and yang; and Water embodies an interconnective Balance Principle.
It’s all a matter of Balance
Understanding FAWE and seeing it operate in the world as a unifying singular pattern catalyzes our ability to see spiritual things happening all around us. We are all balancing spiritual principles in our own way. Sometimes they are beautiful and productive balances, other balances of ours might be precarious, even ugly.

At Growing Holistically we offer ways to awaken your brain – which arguably is meant to be awakened to the spiritual dimension of our lives! Check out my Learning Program to gain more info on how the four elements fit into spiritual growth.
Some of you reading this might enjoy 4 Element Yoga. I can teach you how our foursome of principles play out in our posture, how we walk, and move with our bodies through our lives, And too, check out our 4 Element Oracle cards. They are a fun and engaging way to tune into this four element frame of reference so as to motivate yourself to see things more spiritually.
There is so much to explore as a spiritually awakened person. We were meant to feel spiritually guided, to have spiritual perspectives. While religion can do it, for many young people and persons of all ages, they need something else. Here, nature’s unifying four elements fits the bill exceedingly well.
Sadly we suffer when we ignore that innate need of generating a spiritual perspective as a part of our human condition. Growing Holistically is here to bring more of a spiritual perspective back into our individual and collective lives – through our focus on the ancient wisdom of the four elements.
